Copyright Protection, Authorship and Artificial Intelligence

Do you know who holds the copyright and intellectual property when Artificial Intelligence (AI) content is involved?

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the way we work has evolved. We’ve seen a widespread shift to remote work, including the rise of influencers and content creators, and a growing number of freelancers. The digital landscape has expanded, and with it, the integration of AI into everyday workflows has become increasingly common.

These global shifts have blurred the lines between intellectual property, authorship and ownership, raising important questions about who holds the rights to creative and digital content.

Join copyright expert Emma Kennaugh-Gallacher in this online classroom as she explores the current copyright laws and protections in England and Wales. The session will cover what constitutes a copyrighted work and who owns it, such as in employer-employee relationships. It will also delve into how AI-generated content is created and how it intersects with existing copyright frameworks. Finally, the classroom will examine the available resolutions for copyright holders and strategies to mitigate the risk of infringement.

This classroom will have something for you whether you work in this area, are looking to move across or simply curious. You will also have an opportunity to ask the questions most relevant to your practice. Enrol now!

This online classroom was delivered and recorded on Thursday 25 September 2025.
