Polly is Professor in Law at the University of East Anglia. She is a solicitor and former Partner of a specialist family law firm which she co-founded and Director of UEA Law Clinic. She is a trustee of the charity The Transparency Project, which aims to demystify family law.

She is also the Case Editor of the Financial Remedies Journal, and manages a team of solicitors and barristers who summarise all published financial remedy judgments. As well as this, she is the author of a leading textbook on Family Law published by Oxford University Press.
