Meeting Your Modern Slavery and Transparency Obligations

With the globalisation of UK businesses, there is an increasing need to ensure that the products and services provided do not involve any illegal activity associated with modern slavery. Businesses must carefully examine their operating models and supply chains to maintain transparency and expose illegal human rights violations. To avoid potential entanglement in modern slavery offences, legal professionals require the knowledge to be able to advise clients on their obligations, ensuring they are well-equipped to address potential issues related to modern slavery within their business operations.

This course will highlight the importance of addressing modern slavery and will explore the regulatory framework governing it, including the UN Human Rights Guiding Principles, the International Labour Organization Conventions, the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 and the Gangmasters (Licensing) Act (GLA) 2004. It will also explain what constitutes an offence of modern slavery under the GLA 2004 and the corresponding penalties. Lastly, the course will provide insights into the transparency obligations imposed on commercial organisations to publish a slavery and human trafficking statement.

Through easy-to-understand chapters, this course will equip you with the necessary knowledge to help you advise your clients on modern slavery issues and their compliance requirements.
