Kamla’s credentials
Kam is a solicitor and is accredited by the Law Society as an Advanced Immigration and Asylum Caseworker and Supervisor. Since 2015, she has delivered training for candidates taking the Law Society Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme (IAAS) exams. For four years, she was the Law Society’s Chief Assessor of the IAAS. She is now a member of the Law Society’s Immigration Law Committee.
Kam has worked in legal aid immigration practice since 1999. She is a Senior Solicitor at Southwark Law Centre, where she manages the immigration team. She is committed to legal aid practice, as well as to addressing issues of discrimination and diversity in the legal sector.
Kam is also a part-time Visiting Lecturer at Westminster University, where she writes the Immigration Law module for the Legal Practice Course. She has previously authored the immigration chapters of CPAG’s ‘Benefits for Migrants Handbook’.
Kam is an Independent Funding and Costs Adjudicator for the Ministry of Justice, deciding legal aid funding and costs appeals.
