LAURENCE IS DIRECTOR, RISK AND COMPLIANCE AT BUCKLES SOLICITORS LLP, WHERE HE HAS OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FIRM’S ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
Laurence Howland is the director, risk and compliance of Buckles Solicitors LLP. He has overall responsibility for the firm’s anti-money laundering (AML) and regulatory compliance. Before joining Buckles, Laurence spent three years as a senior financial investigator with the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Before that, he served for 30 years with HM Revenue & Customs (previously HM Customs & Excise) as an accredited financial investigator leading criminal investigation teams dealing with money laundering, restraint and confiscation cases.
Between 2010 and 2014, Laurence was fiscal crime liaison officer appointed to the British Embassy in Beijing working directly with the Chinese government and across the Far East to improve mutual understanding of, and collaboration on, international fraud and money laundering. He has also acted as an expert witness in cases involving the underground transfer of funds from China to the UK.
In 2021, Laurence was awarded an MSc in Financial Investigation with Distinction from the University of Central Lancashire. He was also presented with the prestigious Martin Kenney Award for Outstanding Contribution to Financial Investigation, a joint award from one of the world’s most accomplished lawyers and the University of Central Lancashire.
Laurence is known as an expert in the risk and compliance field and is a regular presenter of training courses.
