Angela Jackman QC (Hon) is a partner at Irwin Mitchell.  Her areas of specialism are mental capacity, education and human rights. Angela is an Accredited Practitioner under the Law Society’s Mental Capacity (Welfare) Accreditation Scheme. She is also cited as a Leader in Civil Liberties and Human  Rights,  Court of Protection and Education Law in Chambers and Partners 2022 and Legal 500 2022.

Angela is regularly instructed by the Official Solicitor and statutory advocates to represent vulnerable patients in deprivation of liberty and welfare cases under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. She is also instructed by individuals in judicial reviews and human rights- based claims against public bodies, including discrimination claims under the Equality Act 2010.

Angela is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She was a Senior Lecturer and CPD Consultant at City, University of London between 2015 and 2021, during which time she designed the Law Society’s compulsory two day course for practitioners seeking accreditation under the  Mental Capacity (Welfare) Accreditation Scheme.  She delivered the course between 2017 and 2021 and is therefore an expert in its development and delivery.

Angela is a member of the Law Society’s Human Rights Committee and an expert panel member of the Strategic Legal Fund for Vulnerable Migrants. She regularly delivers training and is also an author for Legal Action Group.

Angela was given an award for Outstanding Achievement at the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Silver Jubilee Awards in 2009. In 2014, she was highly commended at the Law Society Excellence Awards in the category for Lawyer of the Year: Private Practice and she won Lawyer of the Year at the 2018 Modern Law Awards.
