The Immigration and Asylum Law Accreditation is a recognised quality standard for practitioners providing advice under a Legal Aid Agency (LAA) contract.

The accreditation covers all immigration work that can be done under a LAA contract and it can be used as a quality mark for privately funded work.

This exam tests the required competencies of a Trainee Casework Assistant under the LAA contract.

The exam is available on-demand, which means that you can sit the exam at a date and time that is convenient to you. Once you start the exam, you will have 90 minutes to complete it and you must complete it in one sitting.

The expected standards are designed to reflect the issues encountered by practitioners and ensure that accredited members are able to deliver good quality advice and representation.

Candidates have one 90 minute attempt to answer 30 multiple choice questions. In order to pass the exam you must achieve a mark of at least 60%. If your time expires the exam will submit automatically.

Should you pass the exam, you will be able to download a certificate immediately. You then need to submit an application for accreditation.

Should you not be successful in passing the exam, you will need to contact Learning@LawSociety.org.uk so we can amend your account and enable you to repurchase the exam to have another attempt. If your first attempt is unsuccessful, you may attempt the exam for a second time after 5 working days. However, if your second attempt is also unsuccessful, you must wait at least two months before making any subsequent attempts.
