Instructions for the paper:

The examination consists of 4 parts, 19 Questions in total. You must answer all questions. Parts 2 & 3 require you to use the Advance Material. Details of each question are contained in the section marked Qi.

You do not need to answer the questions sequentially. When moving between questions, you must use the “next screen” button at the bottom of the page. Do not use the back button on your browser.

Answers to the questions must be inserted in the text box following the question. The text box size will expand as you type.

Professional conduct is a pervasive topic in this examination. There is also a compulsory professional conduct question.

If you do not attempt to give a substantive answer to the professional conduct question, you will fail the exam irrespective of the overall mark you obtain for the whole examination.

Part 3 is a compulsory drafting question; if you do not pass this question, you will fail the examination irrespective of the overall mark you obtain for the whole of the examination.

At the end of the examination you will be able to review and change your answers prior to submitting. Once you have submitted your answers, you will not be able to change your answers.

To pass this examination, you must obtain at least 50% of the marks (subject to passing the drafting and the professional conduct questions).

The Nationality and Borders Act 2022 will not be examined in this exam paper.

The Immigration and Asylum Law Accreditation is a recognised quality standard for practitioners providing advice under a Legal Aid Agency (LAA) contract. The accreditation covers all immigration work that can be done under a LAA contract and it can be used as a quality mark for privately funded work. This examination tests the required competencies of a Senior Caseworker under the LAA contract. The 3 hour and 30 minute examination will take place on 29 June at 13:00-17:30. Bookings close on 10 June 2022. The next examination date will be released in due course.

Learning outcomes

This examination tests the required competencies of a senior caseworker under the LAA contract.

You must become accredited as a senior caseworker in order to be paid by the LAA for work conducted under an LAA contract.

Senior Caseworkers should:

have conduct of all matters;
delegate tasks to Casework Assistants and Trainee Casework Assistants, but remain responsible for the progress and overall conduct of the matter.

The expected standards are designed to reflect the issues encountered by practitioners and ensure that accredited members are able to deliver good quality advice and representation.

Candidates have 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete the examination, which consists of 100 marks separated into 4 parts. In order to pass the examination you must achieve a mark of at least 50%. If your time expires the examination will submit automatically.
