The Immigration and Asylum Accreditation assessment process is an important part of ensuring that members who hold an Immigration and Asylum accreditation have suitable expertise and experience to be accredited.
The Law Society takes the integrity of the examination process seriously. Instructions for the paper:
The exam consists of 4 parts, 17 Questions in total. You must answer all questions. Parts 2 & 3 require you to use the Advance Material. Details of each question are contained in the section marked Qi.
You do not need to answer the questions sequentially. When moving between questions, you must use the “next screen” button at the bottom of the page. Do not use the back button on your browser.
Answers to the questions must be inserted in the text box following the question.
Professional conduct is a pervasive topic in this examination. There is also a compulsory professional conduct question.
If you do not attempt to give a substantive answer to the professional conduct question, you will fail the examination irrespective of the overall mark you obtain for the whole examination.
Part 3 is a compulsory drafting question. If you do not pass this question, you will fail the examination irrespective of the overall mark you obtain for the whole of the examination.
At the end of the examination you will be able to review and change your answers prior to submitting. Once you have submitted your answers, you will not be able to change your answers.
To pass this examination, you must obtain at least 50% of the marks.
The accreditation covers all immigration work that can be done under a LAA contract and it can be used as a quality mark for privately funded work.
This examination tests the required competencies of a Casework Assistant under the LAA contract.
The 3 hour and 30 minute examination will take place on 21 June 2021 at 13:00-16:30pm.

Casework Assistants who have passed the exam:
- can conduct tasks delegated by Senior Caseworkers from their own caseload, except in reserved matters;
- cannot have conduct of cases or matters.
Delegated tasks are supervised by, and remain the responsibility of, the Senior Caseworker who has conduct of the matter.
The LAA has confirmed that tasks in controlled legal representation (CLR) matters can be delegated to Casework Assistants, provided the matter or task is not reserved.

The expected standards are designed to reflect the issues encountered by practitioners and ensure that accredited members are able to deliver good quality advice and representation.
Candidates have 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete the examination, which consists of 100 marks separated into 4 parts. In order to pass the examination you must achieve a mark of at least 50%. If your time expires the examination will submit automatically.
